Just An Ordinary Day?

Yes, that is a real baby bird! It had been a fairly quiet morning for us yesterday. Dakota played well for the most part and enjoyed being out on our patio. I in return was able to get some much needed housework done. That right there should have been a sign. Nothing is ever ordinary in our home. It got to be lunch time so I went to go heat up leftovers. I decided Dakota could watch some tv  since we had been busy and had it off a good portion of the morning. As I am turning the tv on, I see our cat, spaz, out of the corner of my eye playing with something in the middle of the room. When I go to investigate I realize its a baby bird. What the...how did that happen?  I manage to get spaz distracted and the bird flies up, however most likely dazed and disoriented it flew straight into our wall crashing to floor. What just happened?
I throw the cat into the bedroom to deal with the bird. At first it look dead but I stroked its back and it came to. Its eyes popped open and it started to move. It allowed me to pick it up and put it in a small shoebox container. This made me believe it was pretty injured and it looked like spaz got her wing. So onto the internet I go to find out what in the world to do with this poor little thing.
I had flashbacks of driving a pigeon to a rescuer with an almost flat tire. The pigeon had sat outside our door for 2 days at a previous apartment and my husband suggested we take it someplace since the complex was swarmed with stray cats. So there I went hunting for a place to take the pigeon.
Anyways, back to the baby bird. I managed to find some care instructions and a wildlife rescue that would direct me to a place to take it. I of course could not put it outside without the capability to fly. Dakota the bird lover of course was so excited to have it up close! What a learning opportunity for her. Her gentleness and empathy showed through in that moment. I thought for sure she would try to hug it. But she never really attempted to touch it, but she did get quite close.
Eventually it was nap time for Dakota and I put her down. During her nap the bird starts getting adventurous and starts flying and perched itself on top of our entertainment center. Oh man guess its wings are ok, but now I have this bird that's flying in my house. Meanwhile my cats start going crazy. And the bird gets spooked and starts flying into more walls. Ok the bird can fly and better to let nature take course and heal the bird rather than risk continuous injury due to flying into walls. But now here's the big question how do I get it back outside. So after a few attempts it finally lands on our window. I was able to get it to perch on my finger and we walked out the front door. As soon as the bird saw the tree it took off. Woohoo...peace of mind that it can fly. It may have some injuries but as long as it can fly, I wasn't in fear of it being attacked. Oh man only in our house...
